My Style
With a degree in Commercial Art, my creativity is not defined by one medium alone. I love to create, whether it be a logo, designing a space, taking photographs, or revamping furniture and salvage items to give them new purpose. I have always had a knack for seeing hidden potential. After years of friends telling me to start my own design business, I'm finally taking the leap! My personal style is a bit rustic, casual, comfortable and a tad eclectic, but I can work with and see beauty in all design styles. I love the idea of layering vintage pieces along with modern elements to make old become new again.
I am eager and look forward to bringing your visions to life.
What's in a name?
Hattie was my mother-in-law whom I sadly never had the chance to meet. Hattie passed away shortly before my husband, Bob and I met. Blu (shortened from Blue) has dual meanings. When Hattie was ill, there was a painting of a blue finch next to her hospital bed. For some reason, Bob said, "Remember that bird, I bet we'll see it again". When Hattie passed away, later that day a blue finch appeared outside her home! The blue finch has shown itself during many meaningful times since, but most notably again, at the passing of her beloved husband, Red. The second connection to Blu is the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. The Bluebird is a special place to Bob and me. The bluebird and blue finch come full circle, creating Hattie Blu. We rarely see a blue finch,
but when we do, it's comforting to know Red and Hattie are sending us a sign. This namesake is certain to bring
positive energy to my endeavor, Hattie Blu.

We are all inspired by visual presentation more than we realize. Visuals evoke emotions and emotions draw people in.
A beautifully wrapped gift with handmade papers and a gorgeous bow that looks too pretty to open, an accessorized outfit in a store that makes you run to your closet to recreate the head to toe look, or falling in love with a pricey item that inspires you to get your DIY on and recreate the look for less. Whether creating a beautiful table setting, staging furniture, plating food or arranging florals; different shapes, textures and colors come together to make beautiful works of art which are hard to forget.
